The Gardner and Gregorc Intelligence Tests are two tests to help you realize how you learn. My personal results were Abstract Random and Musical.
Abstract Random (AR), my result for Gregorc's test, basically means that I'm personal, imaginative, colorful, and have deep feelings. The way I learn is through group discussion, media/music, use of fantasy and imagination, arts, and short lectures. AR was the style I scored highest for, but I only scored one point behind for Concrete Random and Abstract Sequential (though I won't go into those, since AR describes me pretty accurately).
According to Gardner's test, I have an easy time learning musically, through rhythms and melodies. The results say that I love singing, whistling, humming, tapping my feet, and listening, and need "sing-along time", concerts, and generally the ability to play/make music. Though not all of these are correct, this is mainly my learning style, as I love music (in fact, I'm listening to some right now), play an instrument, and I think with rhythms; it's hard to explain, but I keep in step with the music in my head and always make a kind of white noise, like tapping or blowing air through my mouth in a beat. My next closest results (there are a few) were Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Spatial, Inter-personal, and Bodily-Kinesthetic. Out of the results, I expected to get something along the lines of Spatial, because I doodle and draw and am a very visual learner. The other close results are somewhat accurate, but Musical is definitely the best to describe me.
Since this post is running long, I guess I should take away from this that I need to improve on skills besides the ones I scored highest on, and that while I need to focus on my better skills, I should try to balance out, too. Learning that I'm an Abstract Random learner probably will help me figure out how I learn the best. As for people I admire, one is my friend. She's an artist and a really great person, and I'd say she's an Abstract Random, too. She'd probably be a spatial person as she has a huge imagination and is great at designing and drawing original ideas. The second person would be my teacher of two years, who would most likely be Concrete Sequential and a Logical-Mathematical, because she always helped kids solve problems, is very organized, and questioned things, and not in the rhetorical way that most teachers do. Finally, the third person I admire is the author of a popular webcomic. I'd say he would be Concrete Random, since he always surprises readers with the risks he takes in writing, and he'd be a Linguistic or Spatial learner because of his art and writing skills.
I was reading your post and I am Abstract and COncrete Random. Its cool to think that we think alike!
